Travel Wifi Review: The Best Mobile Internet For Travellers

We’re old enough to remember a time when the internet didn’t exist. Back then, we got along just fine without it but now, we’d be lost if we weren’t continuously connected to the world wide web. In fact, we’d be more than lost, we’d be unemployed and you wouldn’t have had the chance to read this awesome Travel Wifi review 🙂

So yeah, we rely heavily on having a good internet connection so that we can work on both of our online businesses and communicate with our friends and family across the world. When living back in the UK, getting a good internet connection wasn’t a problem, the UK is known for its super fast wifi connections. But when travelling the world, which for us has been the case for the past 18 months, it’s nowhere near as easy.

THE PROBLEM – Finding a Fast and Reliable Wifi Connection

When travelling from country to country, finding a fast and reliable wifi connection is a continuous challenge. Especially when in developing parts of the world such as South East Asia. Most hotels, guesthouses and hostels advertise that they have “Free Wifi” but in most cases once logged in the connection is often slow, or, even worse, unusable. The same is common in coffee shops and airports, it’s all a bit hit and miss. It can be very frustrating when you have an important email to send or you need to research your next destination.

THE ANSWER – Travel Wifi

Thank god for Travel Wifi, a mobile wireless device which can be used all over the world to access a quality WiFi connection whenever needed!

In this Travel Wifi review, we’ll explain how it works, share our experience using it and cover important questions like pricing, coverage, speed, uses and how you get your hands on one.

So What Is This Travel Wifi Device?

Travel Wifi is a mobile wireless internet device that can connect to any of your devices such as phone, tablet or laptop in a matter of seconds. Once connected you’ll be able to use the device’s fast and reliable internet connection. This type of Travel Wifi device is also known as pocket wifi, mobile hotspot, or MiFi.

The Travel Wifi device connects to local mobile (cellular) networks for internet access. While Wifi connections in many countries is poor, mobile data coverage (3G/4G) is often very good so by using a Travel Wifi device you should always be connected.

A good example of this is in the Philippines – when we visited for 4 weeks we did not find a single good wifi connection, the Philippines is known for this, but our phone network data coverage was excellent throughout the country. The Travel Wifi device will connect to that local 3G/4G network to create a private Wi-Fi connection just for you! This stops those expensive mobile network roaming fees when you travel to other countries outside of your own.

Our Experience Using Travel Wifi

Researching from a cafe using Travel Wifi

We tested Travel Wifi in Thailand over a period of several weeks. We often like to work from coffee shops where the Wifi might as well be non-existent and we also took trips to rural parts of the country where accommodation Wifi isn’t much better.

Taking Travel Wifi with us took away the hassle, time and stress of searching for a good Wifi connection. Instead, we could simply turn on our new portable internet device to work, research and stream from anywhere we wanted – sitting in our favourite coffee shops, on the banks of rivers, parks and in the privacy of our own room which came in really handy when wanting to stream UK TV while abroad in the evenings. Travel Wifi really does provide total internet freedom.

The Travel Wifi device had no problems with the following uses:

  • Checking and sending emails
  • Updating social media
  • Browsing the internet quickly
  • Skype video calls
  • Whatsapp voice calls
  • Using online photo editing software
  • Developing our WordPress websites
  • Streaming video using Youtube, Netflix, Kodi and UK catch up services.
  • Streaming music on Spotify
  • Connecting to VPNs

This section on this Travel Wifi review is going to be very short because it’s so easy to use. Once the Travel Wifi device arrives all you need to do is:

  1. Turn it on using the button on the left side of the device.
  2. Wait a few seconds for it to connect to a network (see the light indicators on the front of the device).
  3. The name of the Travel Wifi network is printed on a sticker on the back of the device. Find the Wifi network on your phone, tablet or laptop and connect.
  4. Enter the password which is printed on the same sticker on the back.

That’s it! It’s that easy to use a Travel Wifi device.

Where In The World Does Travel Wifi Work?

At present, Travel Wifi works in 120+ countries! As we previously mentioned, the Travel Wifi device connects to local 3G/4G networks so you’ll be covered where you have access to a local phone network. We’re yet to travel a country that doesn’t have 3G or 4G coverage so you’re well connected by using a Travel Wifi device. It’ll first try to access a faster 4G network and if this fails it will find the slightly slower 3G, much the same as your mobile phone would.

How Much Is a Travel Wifi Device?

Getting a Travel Wifi device is easy but it’s important to remember to give yourself several days to allow for it to arrive before you go on your travels. Delivery is fast but it’s best to allow extra time in case of any delays.

  1. Head to the Travel Wifi website.
  2. Fill in the booking form which takes just 5 minutes.
  3. Pay online using the various card options or PayPal.
  4. Receive a confirmation email and wait for your Travel Wifi device to arrive.

Travel Wifi can deliver to your home address but if you are already travelling then it can also be delivered to your hotel, hostel, AirBnB or rental apartment! The single downside is that Travel Wifi currently delivers only throughout Europe so if you plan on using outside of Europe then make sure to get one before you leave the continent.
